On 13 July 2009 (Monday), Companhia de Electricidade de Macau – CEM, S.A. (CEM) and CEM Customer Laision Committee (CLC) held the opening ceremony of Photography Exhibition by Lei U Weng and Iun Iok Meng to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the Popular Republic of China and the 10th Anniversary of Macao SAR, as well as a charity sale of the photographic works. Many celebrities presented in the ceremony for charity purpose, and the scene was warm and lively. Subscriptions were enthusiastic and the donation amount so far exceeded MOP150,000.
The opening ceremony was held at 6:00pm at CEM Building Ground Floor Main Lobby. The officiating guests include Senior Assistant Director-General Economic Affairs Department of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR Li Chunman; Deputy Director of Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government Chan Chak Seng; Chairman of Macao Journalists’ Association Lok Po; President of Macao Chamber of Commerce Hui Sai Un; President of Macao Federation of Trade Unions Chan Kam Meng; Chairman of Board of the General Residents Association of Macao Leong Heng Teng; Vice-President of the Macao Women’s Association Ada Chan; CLC Vice-President Lei Chi Fong; CEM Executive Directors João Travassos da Costa, Bernie Leong, Jorge Vieira; CLC member and President of Photography Salon Society of Macau Lei U Weng; and CLC Vice President Iun Iok Meng.
CLC Vice President Lei Chi Fong said in the speech that they have noticed that five southern provinces were suffering severe floods after the rainstorm these past days. Therefore, by holding a charity sale of the photographic works provided generously by the two authors, CLC hoped to make a contribution to the affected areas and express their concerns. In addition, he expressed his gratitude to Lok Po, Chairman of the Macao Journalists’ Association, for his preface writing for the exhibition; and to the accountant Iong Weng Ian, for her voluntary accounting work.
The response of the Charity Sale was very enthusiastic, the donation amount so far exceeded MOP150,000. The organizers expressed their heartfelt thanks and wished the Exhibition and Charity Sale a great success, and expected all parties to give full support and helping hands to the disaster-hit areas.
The Exhibition takes place in the Lobby of CEM Building located at Estrada D. Maria II, until 26 July from 9:00am to 10:00pm daily. While appreciating the photographs, citizens not only can buy their favorite works, but also make a contribution to the charity cause.
Anyone who wants to inquire about or buy the photographic works can call Mr. Au Ieong at 8393 1206 during office hours or send an email to CPA@cem-macau.com. The floor price for each photo is MOP500. All proceeds will go to the relevant mainland authorities via Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR. In addition, CEM will set a donation box in the Lobby during the Exhibition to raise funds for the flooded areas. All proceeds will be audited by the accountant Iong Weng Ian.
As a social responsible company, CEM has always been devoted to support local arts and cultural activities. In addition, in a bid to promote artistic and cultural activities in Macao, CEM will continue to launch different exhibitions at CEM Lobby and provide the venue for the community free of charge, enriching the variety of the exhibitions in the following months.
