A delegation from State Electricity Regulatory Commission pays a visit to CEM

24 November 2009, Macao

On the morning of 24 November, a six-member delegation from the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) paid a visit to CEM. They were led by Xiang Haiping, Deputy Director, Power Market Regulation Department, SERC, and accompanied by Andy Lei Chu San, GDSE technical consultant. The delegation was warmly received by CEM Chief Executive Officer Franklin Willemyns, CEM Customer Services Department Senior Manager Keegan Cheang, Power and Network Dispatch Department Senior Manager Benjamin Yue, Communications and Public Affairs Senior Manager Iun Iok Meng and more. The two parties had a cordial discussion.

The delegation members also include Zhao Xueshun, section chief of Power Market Regulation Department, SERC, Wang Lifen, section chief of International Cooperation Department, Chen Qingqian, deputy director of South China Bureau of State Electricity, Fu Yanchun, deputy director general of South China Bureau of State Electricity, and Liu Shihong, section chief of East China Electricity Regulatory Bureau.

Franklin Willemyns first extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of CEM. Franklin Willemyns said CEM has been dedicated to providing Macao citizens with a reliable power supply, and have made unremitting efforts in coordinating Macao’s power growth, enhancing the reliability and stabilizing electricity tariffs. The power generation equipment in Macau is also proven to play an irreplaceable role in ensuring the security of power supply and stabilizing the electricity rates.

Willemyns also pointed out that CEM has had good relationships with China Southern Power Grid and Guangdong Power Grid Corporation for more than 20 years. The future challenges of the power industry are how to meet the growing demands for electricity, provide reliable power supply, maintain a steady and reasonable tariff, make Macao more environmental friendly and make contributions to Macao’s economic and social development.

During the meeting, Mr. Xiang said that the economy in Macao has been growing at a blistering pace in the past few years, with remarkably inspiring achievements. He added that the delegation is meant to share CEM’s rich experience in management and operation, and has come to understand the power supply in the city. Mr. Xiang noted that the great achievements made by Macao partly stems from the closer cooperation with the mainland, especially with the neighboring Guangdong Province.

Later, officials from the two parties exchanged gifts and took a group photo. The delegation also toured the dispatch center of CEM. Executives from CEM showed members of the delegation around and introduced the operation and customer service units. In the middle of the day, the delegation was hosted at a banquet.
